Broke the Rostock?

Hello

Today I attempted to use the rostock i’m not sure if it was already broken, the hot weather or just something else but I loaded one of the saved profiles and attempted to print. The printer proceeded to shat itself, not auto leveling then yanking the extruder completely outside the printer and breaking two of the belt drive to push rod slider things. I’ve managed to reset the extruder in the centre and epoxy back the central finger that holds the slider thing to the belts. As far as i know it should be better than new but I haven’t looped the belts back in because I was waiting for the epoxy to cure.

So the belts need to be looped back onto the sliders and someone who understand the drivers might want to look to make sure something has not gone terribly wrong and will go wrong again.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Hello Ken,

I had a look today, and I’m not clear where you epoxied (now I’m home I think I’ve worked it out, didn’t look at your post while I was at the space - see picture of ‘slider thing’ below).

Do you remember if the head was near the bed when you started? If it was, then we need to update our operating instructions to say to use the controls to raise the head to close to the end-stops before homing to the end-stops. And to always home the head before turning the printer off.

The behavior of it homing one arm at a time has been seen before when it is homed from an large offset or low position. I agree it is probably a bug. Wonder if there is newer firmware that fixes it.

The center end of one of the push rods seems to be at an angle which I think will need to be reset straight before it can be used. These rods can be carefully popped off the balls at the ends and then the fittings unscrew from the rod.

Is this the slider thing?

We should print replacements for these - they are worn and the holes for the homing screws are not all straight.

thanks,

Brenda

Yeah those are the slider things, the part that broke off is the middle finger thing that holds onto the belt. The printer was also quite close to the top when I started to too, It sort of just went straight down then started doing weird things.
