Nov 22, 2015 11:00AM: TIG Welding

Hello Makers

Tomorrow 11:AM till about 7PM I’ll be in the space practicing some TIG welding so I can get as many competencies as I can ticked off towards my welding cert before the end of semester. I’ll be bringing in my recently purchased TIG machine and gas which I might leave in the space for a while. People are free to come along to try, ask questions or watch. I’ll be happy to share what I’ve learnt in my formal welding training.

Cheers
-Ken

Great stuff Ken,

Thanks for posting this! As you can probably tell I’ve been trying to broadcast our planned openings as much as possible

I don’t think I see you anywhere in the MHV google calendar permissions (creating an event on gcal also creates a post automatically here on the forums).

Would you be interested? Do you have a google account? You can keep using any non-google email as your google login. Just let me know.

Have fun

Oh: if you remember - post pics

If you could add me to the Calander that would be great! I was looking to add events to the Calander last time I was active but no one could find who had the permissions to set me up.

Thanks

Done! Let me know if there’s any issues

Pic as requested:

Setup

The machine is lift arc with no switch or gas solenoid so I forgot to turn on the gas manually many times and blew holes like this and decimated the tungsten, and also accidentally started an arc a few times and flashed myself luckily no arc eye yet.

Some stringers and dead tungstens.

Butt weld with some bad undercut and a burn spot where I accidentally made an arc.

Tower of practice horizontal welds.

Some scraggly corner welds

Cut up some squares and made a box

Probably the only thing close to worth showing off.

Dammit. Missed this.

Great work and let me know if you’ll do it again. I’m ok with Arc and Migs so it’d be nice to get Tigging under my belt too.
