Grants and fundraising

A place to put fundraising ideas and grants we should consider applying for.

ActewAGL community grants - https://www.actewagl.com.au/about/community/community-grants

Up to $20k for “specific projects that support the capital region community” in the areas of “innovation, environmental sustainability, community engagement”.

The Recyclery previously received an ActewAGL grant to build a shed on their rented property.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle - this is in progress.

We need to put together a document containing the below info and send it off to Belco Bunnings to get the process going:

  • On a letterhead – your address, contact number , about your group and what you are raising the funds for.
  • A copy of your Public Liability.

ChatGPT came up with a great draft letter for our Bunnings sausage sizzle application

Dear Bunnings Fundraising Team,

Re: Application to Host a Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express our interest in hosting a sausage sizzle at your Bunnings store to raise funds for Canberra Makerspace.

Canberra Makerspace is a community-driven workshop that provides access to tools, equipment, and a collaborative environment for makers, tinkerers, and creators of all ages and skill levels. Our mission is to foster creativity, innovation, and lifelong learning by providing a space where people can come together to share knowledge, work on projects, and develop new skills.

We offer a wide range of resources, including 3D printers, woodworking tools, electronics workstations, and more. Our members include hobbyists, students, professionals, and retirees, all united by a passion for making and learning. In addition to providing access to tools and equipment, we host workshops, classes, and community events that promote STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and hands-on learning.

The funds raised from the sausage sizzle will be used to support several key initiatives at Canberra Makerspace:

  • Equipment Maintenance and Upgrades: Regular maintenance and periodic upgrades of our tools and equipment are essential to ensure a safe and efficient working environment for our members.

  • Educational Programs: We aim to expand our educational offerings by developing new workshops and classes that cater to a broader audience, including underrepresented groups in the STEM fields.

  • Community Outreach: By increasing our outreach efforts, we hope to engage more members of the local community and provide access to our resources and programs to those who might benefit the most.

  • Operational Costs: As a non-profit organization, we rely on fundraising and donations to cover our operational expenses, such as rent, utilities, and supplies.

Hosting a sausage sizzle at Bunnings would not only help us raise the necessary funds but also provide an opportunity to raise awareness about our organization and the services we offer to the community. We believe that with your support, we can continue to grow and make a positive impact in Canberra.

Thank you for considering our application. We would be grateful for the opportunity to work with Bunnings and look forward to the possibility of hosting a successful sausage sizzle. Please feel free to contact me at [Your Phone Number] or [Your Email Address] if you require any further information or have any questions.

Warm regards,
