9/3/2015 - Hack the Space & BBQ lunch - Monday

Come and enjoy Canberra Day at MHV!
Space opening at 10am until late.
BBQ lunch @ 12:30pm (bring a plate to share, sausages will be provided - please rsvp for catering numbers).

In the tradition of ‘unconferencing’ we will decide the activities for the day on the day depending who turns up… The aim of the day will be to progress some of the many MHV community projects and do a bit of housekeeping. Some starting ideas;

  • hack the lighting system - continue work on the MHV coloured lights
  • mhv dashing dashboard - get this going again and add new panels
  • alarm system for garage
  • window cleaning
  • another cull of junk from downstairs - so we have more room at table for workshops
  • wiki gardening: clean up the MHV wiki
  • wifi network / adsl connection maintenance
  • update the MHV website

If you are new to MHV this is a great way to meet people and learn about what is available at MHV, sharing knowledge so people can learn enough to contribute to projects is an important part of the day.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to coordinate with other people to work together on a project at a particular time on the day please reply below.

@batau and myself will be there for window cleaning. Would we be able to borrow your long pole? At the very least we can clean the inside windows.
Will there be any veggie sausages? And, is there any preference on what kind of plate to bring? Salad… desert? :cake:

@mon I can bring the pole and the wooly washer fitting and Squeegee - I have new rubber for it. I’ve got a bucket they fit in too.

Would you be able to get some veggie sausages or burgers (whichever you prefer) & MHV will reimburse you - more likely to end up with nice ones that way than if I guess which brand is good.

Maybe just say here what you are bringing so we don’t double up?

I’m going to bring a tomato salad and a zucchini salad, we have heaps growing at the moment.

Can any who would prefer vegetarian or has any other dietary requirements please say so here or email me so we get an idea of how much to get?

Thanks for brining the washing equipment and bucket!

I’ll bring a pasta salad :ramen: It’s an avocado/tomato one. I haven’t made it before so hopefully it will be OK!

I would be happy to get some veggie sausages. I’ll probably get the Sanitarium veggie delights BBQ sausages (vegan friendly too), unless any other veggies have other preferences.

I’ll be along. My intent is to bring along a Gado-Gado (Indonesian potato salad), but I will check first if anyone has peanut allergies since its main feature is a peanut/satay sauce.

Please let me know if peanuts are a bad idea!

I’ll be there early afternoon with a trailer to help dispose of anything “excess to requirements”.

Oh, a hack-day! Yes, it’s about time I showed up again. I can’t say what time I’ll manage to show up, but I’ll do my best!

I am coming for the BBQ and a beer at lunch time, then fitting the next bird/draught blocker to the southern end of the small garage.

I’ll be there too, bringing a friend who has an idea for a RasPi project. If anybody has one to bring to the space to look at that’d be cool

I am happy to come along, I was going to go kayaking until I forgot to preprogram my washing machine ~insert sametime rofl emote here~

I’ll be bringing my raspberry pi (und associated “stuff”) to work on my home automation stuff (building a chaos server, basically a server that replaces the automation functions of my overworked homePi) and maybe my ESP8266 to build a lightswitch

@csirac2_ / @csirac2 If you have your own memory card ( I can flash it with the most recent rasbian if it’s blank ) and don’t need to use the pi for too long I am happy for you to use it, note that it’s a raspberry pi 1.0 model B

That’s awesome, thanks Max!

Will be there, late (1pm-ish) with something vego for the BBQ.

It was good to see you all today! Here’s the recipe for the pasta salad

Thanks everyone for coming and making it a great day!

Quite a few new people came and had a tour and stayed for a while to enjoy the space. Hopefully we’ll see them again soon.

Lots of activity today as well as the delicious BBQ lunch. Blackboard paint bought & first coat put on the board near the entrance, the windows not over the lake were cleaned, trailer load of junk taken away, workshop table cleared, lots of raspberry pi knowledge shared, upstairs vacuumed, bird excluder installed above second door in small garage, new tech videos hard drive made visible on intranet, babies admired, wifi network checked, initial discussion of whether to arrange something for international women’s day next year at MHV, line following robots tested, games played on the Mame box and much more.

@mon’s salad was excellent so we asked her to post the recipe - thanks @mon!
