‘Workshop’ (?) idea: locks and lock-picking

Alright: running this Sat 27th, starting at 11:00.

Want to confirm a few things:

  1. Should we grab a few small half-circle files from a hardware store?
  2. I can fetch the sandpaper otherwise.
  3. Depending on files, the workshop cost = ~$5–10pp max.
  4. RSVPs?
  5. Someone there to open the space that morning.

I might be able to come along and I can open if I can make it

Additionally if I make it, do you want me to bring in me dremel?

BTW your right those bristles are everywhere lol

Just a reminder that this’ll be running tomorrow — I should be there by 11:00.

Additionally if I make it, do you want me to bring in me dremel?

Soz, missed this.

Feel free to. If anyone has one we can demo the making of homebrew security pins.

Hey Pascal,

I’ll be coming in today  and I have a key to the space, so if no one is opening yet, then I can.

I think grabbing some files won’t be an issue, just keep the receipt

Thanks @klepas, it was a fun (yet freezing cold) morning.

Naturally as I got home I immediately attended to the chained (and by now well oiled) lock. After many attempts I tried it CCW and it yielded. It does have a strong spring resisting the rotation of the cylinder but it opens with a relatively small turn.

I now need to find more locks to play with…

cheers Everyone

Hey! Nicely done. (:

If you’re keen I have a few in my collection, and a few spare picking tools — lemme know if you’re interested.

Thanks to all who attended. (:

Thanks for organising and facilitating @klepas!

I would be keen to meet up again at some point after I make a few more bogotas and buy some locks

Offer stands to lend some locks. (:

Sorry I missed this. It completely passed me by that it was on this weekend!

Re legality:

The relevant law would see to be here: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/act/consol_act/cc200294/s315.html . By the looks of it, the point of law is “intent to commit a theft (or related offence)”.

But, I Am Not A Lawyer.

IANAL.

From what I understand, in the ACT(?), it’s up to the discretion of the officer(s) in assessing any intent; the tools can be considered to constitute intent itself — or something like that.
