We now have a Solidoodle 3 available for use - once the lack of heat to the extruder has been diagnosed and fixed. Spare parts for this model are available from http://www.solidoodle.com/parts/parts-SD3?page=1
Cameron put a ohm meter on it and found no connection across the heater wires. I would guess that the resistor used for heating has broken. I have some spares and will look at it at some point.
Excellent. Hopefully this one can come online quickly. I have created a wiki page at https://wiki.makehackvoid.com/howto:using_the_3d_printer:solidoodle3 to record the adventure.
Here’s the guide I was following: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/636/hot-end-isnt-hot-how-to-repair/
I got as far as: Measure resistance across the hot end, figure out it’s not connected, skim the rest of the instructions, leave it for someone else / another day.
My testing also points to the heater resistor being blown. It is far from the first solidoodle 3 to blow its heater.
@ozadr1an: I assume this is forum post on Solidoodle not shipping the heater is you. How has the heater block held up to your modding? We have a spare 6mm heater cartridge laying around from the donated Rostock. I’m tempted to throw that heater at the Solidoodle but am a little weary of just taking a drill to the heater block.
FWIW it looks like Solidoodle do offer the extruder heater resistor as a standalone part now for $3 (+ ~$40 shipping) so yay! I guess. I can’t find anyone closer that sells that part in particular, but maybe someone can dig up a generic part that’ll fit and work for a while.
I’ve got all you need… Will come to space Thursday and bring stuff.
