New PC's for MHV

Hi MHVer’s!

I am planning to donate up to three OptiPlex-745 minitower PC’s (https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf). Each machine will have 2 Gb RAM, 500 Gb hard disk space, a DVD drive and an intel core 2 duo processor (not exactly sure of the processor speed). At the moment, the hard disks are empty, meaning there aren’t any preloaded operating systems but I can install CAELinux2013 (http://caelinux.com/CMS/) if people want. Please let me know (committee members) if you would like these machines in the space or if any details remain unclear. If individual members would like these for their personal hacking projects let me know also!

Sounds great Joseph. Not being familiar with the existing inventory of donated PCs (@jambulance might remember if we already threw out those old P4s with the SGI rack at the last working bee?), I’d just check that we don’t already have a surplus of Core2 PCs but in principle they do sound potentially useful (I use a couple of Core2s for things at home, and we do have a need for a “server” PC soon for WebSDR/OpenWebRX, 1090logger, and of course the SatNOGS node for MHVSA :slight_smile:

Edit: I’m 99% sure they’d be appreciated at MHV :slight_smile:

Can confirm the old P4s went out the with the rack.
