MHV stand at Science in ACTion - 14th & 15th August

MHV has been offered an opportunity to have at stand at Science in ACTion at the Old Bus Depot on the 14th & 15th of August. I’m keen to help arrange this and think I’ll be able to attend both days. I would like to know who else is interested and likely to be available.

If we start now, we could have some interesting interactive exhibits prepared by August. We could apply for funding for materials - but the catch on that is that funding applications closer tomorrow at 5pm.

Contact me or reply here if you are interested in being involved.

Here is the information I’ve been given about the event:

Science in ACTion will run on the 14th and 15th of August. The 14th is a dedicated Schools Day (9:30am – 3:30pm), the 15th is Community Day (10am – 4pm). It is a large interactive exhibition showcasing science, technology, engineering and mathematics from organisations in the ACT and some national and international bodies. The focus for the event is on bringing our research and areas of work to the public, in a way that allows them to see, hear, touch and explore. For the schools day there is also the added element of careers information as we specifically target secondary students to attend.

Science in ACTion will be held at the Former Transport Depot (Old Bus Depot) in Wentworth Ave, Kingston, which is a large undercover space split over two levels. There is no cost to participate and the committee will provide each exhibitor with a large table, two chairs and a fuzzy sign board. We are able to facilitate additional set ups including booths, lighting, extra tables etc, but the costs of this will need to be borne by each exhibitor. We will undertake comprehensive marketing of the event and work with you to promote your organisation and work.

Last year was the first time this event ran and it attracted over 3,000 visitors over the two days. As a comparison point, the well known and established Geoscience Australia Open Day had over 8,000 visitors. This year we expect it to be bigger and better and it will absolutely help us promote the day, to schools in particular, if we can give them examples of who will be participating. We would be grateful if you could please indicate no later than the 17th of May (or at your earliest convenience!) if you would like to be a part of Science in ACTion.
