Learning to use the 3D printers and Roland CNC mill

Continuing the discussion from MHV Community:

If people ask to shown how to use the 3D printers or the cnc mill, someone will probably offer to arrange a time to help. That’s been happening fairly often. Both the printers and the cnc mill are hard for more than a couple of people to work at at once, so it is probably better introducing people one on one or in very small groups. A workshop on the software to make the 3d models could work if someone was willing to develop and run it.

There are some notes on the wiki, although in the case of the 3D printer these haven’t been kept up to date, so just reading it doesn’t work, and I’d hope no one at MHV would put someone off with ‘RTFM’.

I think using them is still more of an art than a science so we don’t necessarily know the answers - we are all experimenting and looking for answers on the internet and through experience. That’s one of the reasons that the wiki is out of date, we keep finding new information and changing the equipment, but not taking the extra time to update the wiki. Maybe some of the people who start learning now could bring it back up to date.

@Robin_Shannon what times suit you for coming into the space and which of the would you like to get started with? Lets see if someone is available to get you started.

Is anyone else interested in getting introduced to these or anything else in the space?

Yes please. I’ve had some experience with CNC before, but never touched a 3D printer.

what times suit you for coming into the space @Harvs?

I would come too, any time

During the week anytime after 6 would be easiest for me. Busy house hunting on the weekends at the moment.
